Rudy Candler Lapidary |
 |
Rudy Candler is a chemistry
professor with the University
of Alaska. He spent many
years in Wasilla, Alaska
teaching. Dr. Candler (as he
hates to be called) retired
from the classroom about two
years ago and moved to
Eastern Oregon. He now
teaches on-line and does
some lapidary work to make
a little extra money.
Some of his creations, such
as the Rhodenite sculptures,
come from stone he carried
out on his back from remote
areas in Alaska and the
Yukon.
Always a forward thinker,
Rudy decided that he could
supplement his retirement
income by parking his pickup
and going to a mule and cart
for transportation. He got
himself a mule named Tom.
Tom lives in Rudy's back yard
and stands out on Rudy's
deck to watch television. Tom
is learning how to pull a
wagon, and when his training
is complete, Rudy is toying
with the idea of making a
pilgrimage back to Alaska by
mule driven cart. He is
pictured here in his cart
driving outfit.
We love having long,
animated discussions with
Rudy on the environment,
politics, German food and
other contemporary issues.
We hope you will enjoy
Rudy's work as much as we
enjoy his unique charms. |
